If you're anything like me, you probably wear the same five items to death while the rest of your clothing sinks into a deep, black hole in the back of your closet. I FEEL YA. About a month ago, I pulled out a pair of low-rise bootcut jeans from 8th grade and decided it was time to tackle the beast.

We hold on to so many things we don't need. Whether it's that horrendous bodycon you bought for freshman year formal or a printed romper you had to have but haven't worn since. It's time to ask yourself, "Do I really need this?" Now that college is officially over ('insert sobbing-face emoji here'), I'm trying to take a more minimal approach to my wardrobe. By clearing out the things that I didn't want anymore, I was able find the gaps and invest accordingly. First, I set aside anything I wanted to pass along to friends or family. Next, I took what I knew I wouldn't be able to sell and donated it in our local charity bin. For everything else, I decided to give selling a fair shake. 

There are so many sites for selling clothes online (eBay, Tradesy, ThredUP, Depop), but lately I've been enjoying Poshmark. You can download the app on your phone (best option) or upload items on the website via computer. Other sites may leave you with more $$$ in your pockets, but I like Poshmark because it's user-friendly and hassle-free. Basically, all you have to do is take a photo of your item, list the size, name a price, and you're ready to share! When you make a sale, Poshmark will send you pre-paid and pre-addressed shipping labels for everything, and you can request direct deposit or a personal check for your payment. This is how the $$$ works:

"For all sales under $15, Poshmark takes a flat commission of $2.95. You keep the rest. For sales of $15 or more, you keep 80% of your sale and Poshmark's commission is 20%."

You can technically sell any brand, but if you're trying to get rid of your Forever21 going-out tops from college, this is probably not the place. Brand-name items tend to do really well... What else is new? A few popular ones I've noticed in my feed are Levis, Topshop, Tory Burch, J. Crew, Free People, Sam Edelman, Converse, and Lululemon. If you have anything of the sort, you'll be golden. 

So, if you've been waiting for someone to tell you to get rid of those Soffe shorts from 7th grade, this is it. Now is the time to make some cash to fund your new wardrobe. If you're a mom with a closet full of things you don't wear, this is a great project for teenagers wanting to make a few bucks in the last week before school starts back up. Even if you're not going back to school, September is the beginning of a new season, and I'm looking forward to starting fresh.
